Nick Saban 1, God 0

Paul Harvey

Nick Saban (coach of the championship Alabama Crimson Tide football team) has more Facebook fans than does God in the great state of Alabama. So the Birmingham News reports.

What does this betoken for southern religious history? Might Drew Brees soon be outdrawing the Virgin on facebook accounts in Louisiana?

In Florida, Starbucks wins, but we always knew they weren't really in the South anyway.

Oklahoma is not represented here -- my home state slighted yet again. Texas also isn't reported, which is perfectly ok with me.

Deg -- Georgia is a question mark here. How does Chick-Fil-A measure up to God in the Facebook polls?

Hat tip to Seth Dowland for this in-depth research.

Paul - the article said Oklahomans picked the Sooners first and God third. So their priorities are in order. And as a native Georgian, I've gotta think God's going to beat out Chick-Fil-A, unless they limit the survey to the atlanta metro area. Just a bunch of heathen yankees living there...

In Georgia, God and Chick-fil-A are one and the same. Add in UGA football and you have the Holy Trinity of the Peach State.

Seth: Thanks, somehow I missed that phrase. Not "somehow," probably intentionally missed it to bolster my own Sooner sense of victimhood.

Deg: point well taken. LIke Wal-Mart in Arkansas.

Maybe. Then again, they don't have a Wal-Mart Bowl in Ark.

I love this graphic!!

Can see all sorts of uses for it. How do collard greens or hot boiled peanuts fare against against the praying hands? How does the statue of the praying hands at ORU stack up against the graphic praying hands?

This is awesome. One question, though: Is Virginia not part of the South?

Virginia is part of the South in my estimation, though I did have friends from Georgia worried about me going to school "up north" when I decided to go to UVA.

@Randall: the person who designed that graphic was truly inspired. Whether they were inspired by God or Nick Saban is up for debate.

The South is everywhere south of the Canadian border. Smart dude said that once...

Aren't God and Chick-Fil-A intimately connected? You can go to Chick-Fil-A six days a week and patronize God on Sundays. Together they could certainly crush the competition.
