Jack Black and Jesus Christ

by Matt Sutton

The controversy surrounding the passage of California's anti-gay Proposition 8 continues to swirl. Hollywood has once again gotten into the action. A number of stars put together a hilarious video clip that puts the blame for Prop. 8, rightly or wrongly, on the state's religious population. It’s not often that my home state of California gets accused of having too much religious fervor. Making the point is none other than JB as JC, Jack Black as Jesus Christ. If I was not a technological idiot who has to call my brother every time I need computer help, I would embed the video clip here. Since I am not that smart, you have to follow this link to see it.

It was worth the "extra effort" to click on the link!

That is amazing! All my favorite comedians.

JB's remarks remind me of similar comments by Rev Lovejoy on the Simpsons. To Marge: "...oh just about everything is a sin, have you ever sat down and read this thing? Technically we're not allowed to go to the bathroom."

JB reprises his role from Mr. Show. But on that 1990s classic he played Jeepers Creepers, a Gen X take on the lead from Jesus Christ Super Star. Worth watching at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxfxfh9w44g

When I first checked these comments, another anonymous reader offered a less than subtle rebuke to the author for praising the lampooning of sincere religion.

While I thought this reaction showed thin skin and a lack of humor, I'm disappointed that the blog editors felt the need to remove this comment.

Did it really merit censorship? If so, why?

Obviosuly, it deserved censorship. Only the left needs tolerance. Mocking religion is fine, but mocking the pieties of our elitist betters is as evil as voting against gay marriage.

Ah, well, I see we shall wait in vain for an answer from the editors regarding the removal of the comment. That is disappointing. I expected more.
