For us the major publications are not the AQ or JAH, but the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, the Journal of Religion, and a wide variety of specialty publications ranging from Religion & American Culture to the Journal of Religion & Society.

When I see names like John Butler, John T. McGreevy, or George Marsden I don't think, "history of religion," I think religious studies. That is certainly a disciplinary bias, but history would be harder pressed to "claim" these scholars than religious studies. Perhaps the AHA is becoming more successful in recruiting from allied fields (where there are many working historians). I joined because methodologically I operate as a historian, a distinction that may be pliable, but which may help explain why a literature review in history journals would come up less than thriving where religion is concerned--it takes a backseat to our "subject."fatedplacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13711127341102704213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37589721331585843.post-46493920000858481052009-07-01T23:56:19.434-06:002009-07-01T23:56:19.434-06:00Nice Randall!
