Though they rejected the Baptist preacher, medical doctor, and pilot Ernie Fletcher last Tuesday, voters in our state also passed the anti-gay marriage amendment OVERWHELMINGLY in 2004. Given the scandals that marred the Fletcher governorship, I suppose we could read the failure of Fletcher’s last minute posting of the Ten Commandments (evidently “thou shalt not promote thy unqualified friends to high office” is number eleven) as demonstrating something about the credibility of religious commitments in the light of a candidate’s actual practices. I was actually quite surprised, but proud, of Kentucky voters last Tuesday.

Carolyn DupontAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37589721331585843.post-39998737939549926642007-11-09T07:12:00.000-07:002007-11-09T07:12:00.000-07:00If Christian voters followed Jesus, instead of wha...If Christian voters followed Jesus, instead of whackos like Falwell and Robertson, they would know that in Jesus' view two commandments covered the whole of religion.

One of these has little to do with secular democracies like ours. But the other has everything to do with any government genuinely interested in promoting the welfare of its citizens. The "golden rule" is not just the heart of Christianity, it's central to most other faiths and even the heart of "secular humanism".

See http://LiberalsLikeChrist.Org/ which shows why actually FOLLOWING Jesus of Nazareth should make all Christians "Liberals Like Christ" and why liberals of all stripes should "like Christ".Liberator_Revhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14207582050905012088noreply@blogger.com
