He grew so powerful that he became the leader of their town. It's pretty surreal and I can't believe people like him exist! It puts everything (religion) into perspective for me.denisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08256245316845087021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37589721331585843.post-12364145031792348292010-02-18T06:49:22.417-07:002010-02-18T06:49:22.417-07:00NPR's Talk of the Nation has an audio intervie...NPR's Talk of the Nation has an audio interview (and photo gallery, but National Geographic already put that up) about the FLDS cover story:

http://www.npr.org/blogs/pictureshow/2010/02/a_photographer.html

I'm interested if anyone from D.C. went to hear Sinclair speak at the NG Live! event last night?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37589721331585843.post-48690046160670194902010-02-06T05:01:17.577-07:002010-02-06T05:01:17.577-07:00There are days, I feel like a garbage scow, with a...There are days, I feel like a garbage scow, with all these seagulls following in my wake......Hugh McBrydehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16926516260588481185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37589721331585843.post-24801356747858735652010-02-04T14:24:40.766-07:002010-02-04T14:24:40.766-07:00Christopher,

There are recognized limits placed upon 'Freedom of Religion' by our Supreme Court. Limits not observed by the FLDS Church or the soft peddler Pharisee. See the long standing ruling of Reynolds vs. United States made in 1887 and has withstood over 100+ years of legal challenges. Mr. Pharisee says,'Clearly raised in the soup of their beliefs, young people tend to subscribe to them, becoming the next generation of polygamy practicing Fundamental LDS.' The 'young' he mentions include girls 12 to 16 years illegally married and sexually assaulted by hand selected men aged 30, 40 and 50+ years old, with multiple wives of their own. The children in the FLDS Church are homeschooled and fully indoctrinated into the illegal beliefs by church approved and published reading/study materials not unlike young Hitler youth were in NAZI Germany in the 1930-40s.

This issue isn't about 'Freedom of Religion' as much as freedom to live religious sect free and not born into a closed society that denies US Constitutional rights in God's name!Jam Innhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03142701264128096656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37589721331585843.post-85156494759859830142010-02-04T00:00:27.339-07:002010-02-04T00:00:27.339-07:00On the lighter side, this post at By Common Consen...On the lighter side, this post at By Common Consent is well worth the click:

http://bycommonconsent.com/2010/01/31/the-perfect-place-for-your-own-theocracy/John G. Some good, some not-so-good.

You can even read Warren Jeffs' dictations chronicling his activities, which is pretty much like a diary. They're compiled here:
http://texasflds.wordpress.com/the-evidence/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37589721331585843.post-20776339557331724112010-02-03T15:43:02.763-07:002010-02-03T15:43:02.763-07:00Good post, Randall.

This is probably prevented (at least in part) because the closed nature of the community makes research difficult. But there is quite a bit of literature produced by the FLDS and other groups, and the events of the past couple of years in TX may have ultimately worked to bridge the distance and suspicion between the FLDS and outsiders (however so slightly). Now, if I could just get my hands on Warren Jeffs's diary.

Attending the FLDS rally at the Salt Lake City courthouse last year was interesting, to say the least:

http://www.juvenileinstructor.org/the-flds-rally-at-the-salt-lake-courthouse-june-29-2009/

This post by independent historian John Hamer's visit to Colorado City in May 2008 may be of interest, as well:

http://bycommonconsent.com/2008/05/17/observations-from-my-brief-visit-to-colorado-city/

Kelly, as you may know, following the raid in Texas, FLDS women started a website that sold handmade clothing (FLDSdress.com). It appears, however, that the site is no longer in service (the URL directs to the main FLDS website now). But it did spawn the following site mocking their efforts: http://fldsdressed.com/Christopherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13838699621239633661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37589721331585843.post-3471320831104692742010-02-03T12:11:00.997-07:002010-02-03T12:11:00.997-07:00My visions are mostly about what hair tonics to pu...My visions are mostly about what hair tonics to purchase.Randallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16755286304057000048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37589721331585843.post-26029985534726894132010-02-03T11:39:15.591-07:002010-02-03T11:39:15.591-07:00Wait, I thought everyone had visions telling them ...Wait, I thought everyone had visions telling them which sun tanning salons to frequent?Art Remillardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03857242536492717015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37589721331585843.post-62125274887269001232010-02-03T10:53:19.696-07:002010-02-03T10:53:19.696-07:00Randall,
